The news of Lionel Messi's retirement from international football has become the subject of discussion among football fans and sport media.
It will be recalled that Lionel Messi announced that it was over for him at international level after the Argentine National Team failed to win the 2016 COPA AMERICA FINAL against CHILE; Chile won on penalty as Messi failed to score from the spot kick during the shoot-out.

Immediately after the match, Messi said:
After Francisco Silva’s winner hit the net, Messi was obviously devastated as he quickly left the centre circle and took a seat with the Argentine team mates. From his
countenance, one could easily guess that Messi was not actually thinking about the match they have just lost, but the cumulation of disappointments him and his team mates has brought to the Argentine after loosing the third consecutive final of a major competition for his country.
From the statement of his retirement interpreted and quoted above, Messi must have made the announcement after a deep thought while sitting with his Argentine team mates. The statement to me is simply an answer to some difficult questions he must have been asking himself while sitting; such as, WHAT DO I DO TO ESCAPE THE HUGE CRITICISM THAT AWAITS ME AFTER MISSING A PENALTY AND FAILING TO LEAD THE NATIONAL TEAM TO GLORY IN THREE CONSECUTIVE FINALS? AM I THE BAD-LUCK FOR THE NATIONAL TEAM? (from his quote above "I think this is best for everyone, he equally said in the video that "maybe I am not destined for trophies at national level").
However, whether he meant it or it was just a decision to save himself from criticism, I would like to join other football fans all over the world to offer my kind advise for Mr. Lionel Messi to reconsider his decision on retirement and return to national duty. He is still young, full of energy and still has so much to offer his country. Above all, he has succeeded in shifting the attention of the world from criticising him to discussing his retirement announcement; A move i considered to be a smart one anyway.

It was the thing I wanted the most, but I couldn't get it, so I think it’s over. I think this is best for everyone. First of all for me, then for everyone. . . . It’s very hard, but the decision is taken. Now I will not try more and there will be no going back.
